Carnaval Kaarela

Quirky performance Carnaval Kaarela took over the suburb of Kannelmäki, Helsinki, on Saturday 20.5.2017 . Walkapolis project was one of collaborators of Carnaval Kaarela.

Carnaval-parade started on Sitratori and advanced through Kannelmäki, with stops at two centers of assisted living, at the children’s playground, and at the local community space Olkkari. Participants were invited to join in the parade or to watch and listen to the activities at any point of the route. The moving stage of the Carnaval was a customized van, with unexpected, exhilarating, and even strange events taking place as the parade made its way through the local streets. Even sorrow and conflicts had their space in the hustle and bustle of the Carnaval.
